Greetings fellow Rotarians,
At today's meeting we celebrated happy news from several members and also welcomed a guest/speaker. Larry Barnett, from the Rotary Club of Barrington (Noon) group was in attendance to speak about the 2015 Clean Water Project - Kenya. Larry also thanked our club for past contributions to four projects that we have helped support.
Larry's current project is the 2015 Clean Water Project - Kenya. With this project, he is hoping to create three new boreholes (a deep, narrow hole made in the ground) which would serve 8,000 people in Kenya. The approximate project cost is $90,000.00. The cash needed for this project is $26,000.00. Larry hopes that 10 clubs will be able to participate in this project. In addition to Rotary Clubs in District 6440, there may also be involvement in clubs from Milwaukee and Dallas.
He anticipates that it will take 3-6 months to gather the club contributions. He also spoke about the global grant application and approval process. Once the funds are secured, it will take 1-3 months to drill the boreholes and install the pumps. Concurrently to the drilling process, they also need to establish a women's group in Kenya to manage the borehole. The final step will be a hand off ceremony. This all takes about one year to complete.
Finally, due to many members not being able to attend the Social Hour scheduled for Friday, October 9th at 6:30pm at the Vino Cellar in Lombard will be rescheduled. Please watch future bulletins for more details.
Respectfully submitted,
Kandice Krettler
