Meeting updates from 12/8/15 & 12/15/15!

Tuesday, December 8, 2015
Announcements by President Pavelchik included the following:
  • Fruit ordered by members from the Glen Ellyn club will be available for pickup this coming weekend.
  • There will be a board meeting tonight at 6pm.
  • Thank you's were received from RYLA attendees Hector Vargas and Elizabeth Herrera.  Both notes were handwritten and very nice.
  • Happy news was shared amongst the group.
Our guest speaker today is Mila P. Tsagalis, from the DuPage County Health Department.  Mila is the Director of Community Initiatives. Mila's presentation included information on several initiatives on behalf of the DuPAge County Health Department including: Tobacco, Forward, Narcan, Ready, Set, Smile, and Project Connect.  According to the DCHD website, FORWARD (Fighting Obesity Reaching healthy Weight Among Residents of DuPage) is a coalition of partners dedicated to reversing the obesity trend in DuPage County by educating children and families about the importance of eating healthy and being physically active. In addition to several of the programs mentioned above, the DCHD works closely with law enforcement with the DuPage Narcan Program (DNP).   In June 2013, the DuPage County Health Department Coroner saw a rash of deaths caused by heroin.at one point during this time period there was 1 death per day, for 12 days.  The DNP was created in response to this issue and more information about the DuPage Narcan Program can be found here: http://www.dupagehealth.org/dnpinfo
 
Mila also shared news about the new Community Center building.  This building contains a multitude of services including: Crisis Services, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, The Living Room, and much more.  Please visit their website here for more information: http://www.dupagehealth.org/communitycenter

At today's meeting, we welcomed District Assistant Governor Roy Fonda to our club.
 
President Pavelchik made a few announcements and gave a recap of the annual holiday party.  At last week's board meeting, it was decided that the club would hold next year's holiday party and auction at Diplomat West.  Members at today's meeting agreed.
 
Happy news was shared among the club.
 
There was no presenter today.
