Greetings fellow Rotarians!

Here is the recap for our meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2015:

Several members shared their good news with the club.  Additionally, there were a few announcements:
  • President Pavelchik shared information on a service offered by DuPage County called, Smart911.  According to the handout passed around, "Smart 911 is a confidential service that allows users to create a profile that is activated in participating dispatch centers when a person dials 911.  The electronic safety profile provides essential information about family members, pets, home and vehicles...it's private and secure and users control what information is in their profile." Everyone is encouraged to use this service.
  • There was also information available about the Commemorative Memorial Brick Program, which will be placed in the Villa Park Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park.  Order forms are available and cost $50.00 for each brick ordered.
  • Scott Helton also shared information about the "Young Hearts for Life FREE cardiac screening", which will be held on February 25, 2016 at Addison Trail High School.  They are looking for volunteers to help at this event.
  • The Shoe & Boot Drive will be held on Monday, November 1; Tuesday, November 2; and Wednesday, November 3 from 6-8pm.  Club members will be needed to volunteer at this event and a sign-up sheet has been passed around.  Please contact President Pavelchik and let him know if you can help.

Guests & Speakers:
At today's meeting we welcome Dani Brink, the Director of Community Relations for DuPage High School District 88 as our guest.

Scott Helton, the Superintendent of Schools, DuPage High School District 88 gave a presentation on the State of District 88.  This presentation reflected on the 2014-15 school year and also looked ahead at the 2015-16 school year.  District 88 has many accolades from various publications, as well as national recognitions.  Last June nearly 1,000 students graduated from Addison Trail and Willowbrook High School. Scott also talked about the various ways their students give back to the community by hosting blood drives, supported the American Cancer Society, and also how the kids participated in numerous community events.  Students from District 88 have received State and National Honors both academically and athletically.  The district has many goals for the future including: monitoring student growth, expanding technology, and remaining fiscally responsible.

Respectfully submitted,
Kandice Krettler
